Builders Care, some kind hearted trade partners, and over 100 caring volunteers from Celebration Church rescued a family in need by completely renovating their home. Kittie-Lyn Pruitt recently became a widow after losing her husband, Ernest Pruitt to a lengthy illness of diabetes and congestive heart failure. Ernest also left behind three boys; Jimmy 16, William 14, and Elvis, 10. This family was overwhelmed with unexpected bills, and they were unable to repair their home. "My husband was suffering and he was fighting to stay with us until our prayers were answered. When Builders Care showed up on our doorstep, Ernest was relieved and cried tears of joy. He could now rest in peace," said Pruitt. Extensive repairs and renovations were made to the two-bedroom, two-bath home. The repairs took 10 days to complete. The family's main bathroom was unsafe and could not be used because of rotting floors, mold in the walls, plumbing issues and electrical hazards. The Pruitt's were sharing one bathroom that also needed repair. Volunteers worked diligently by repainting the entire house, demolishing rotting floors and walls, making repairs and moving furniture. A complete kitchen and bathroom remodel was done to ensure the safety of the Pruitt family. New insulation was put in and repairs were made to the family's heating and air-conditioning system to lower energy costs. "This deserving family has been through many hardships. Their home was tired and Builders Care wanted to help," said Chris Simons, director of operations for Builders Care. Pruitt said she is overwhelmed with gratitude and cannot believe that complete strangers cared so much about people they have never met. Written by Dalia Mousa - dmousa@builderscare.org |
